Kenneth Hale Obituary

Kenneth Hale, age 96, of Purdin, died Tuesday, October 30, 2018, at Life Care Center in Brookfield.

Funeral services will be Friday, November 2, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at Wright Funeral Home in Brookfield with Pastor Rex Leppin officiating. Burial will be in Purdin Cemetery in Purdin.  The family will receive friends Friday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Memorials to Purdin Cemetery or Purdin Community Center Building Fund may be left at or mailed to Wright Funeral Home, P.O. Box 496, Brookfield, MO 64628.

Kenneth E., son of Edward and Ethel Mae (Warren) Hale, was born September 19, 1922 near Purdin.  On April 21, 1946, he married Della Fern Powell who preceded him in death on December 6, 2014.

Kenneth grew up in the Purdin area.  After graduating from high school, he became a farmer and worked as a barber in Purdin for 10 years and later was a rural letter carrier for the US Postal Service for 20 years.  He was a US Army Veteran and served in Italy during World War II, receiving a Purple Heart and Bronze Star.  Kenneth was a member of the Browning American Legion Post for over 70 years.  He was baptized in the Purdin Church of Christ and later became a member of the United Methodist Church in Purdin.

Survivors include a sister-in-law, Martha Murrell of Linneus; four nieces, Gloria Swalley and husband, Daryl of Jamesport, Cheryl Rogers of Odessa, Betty Schappaugh and husband, Roger of Palmyra, and Marjorie Kilgore and husband, Bob of Albany, Oregon; one nephew, John Murrell and wife, Susie of Linneus; a niece, Marian Brown of Newport, Oregon; and several great nieces, nephews and other relatives.

His parents; one sister, Anita Strange and husband, Ora; sister-in-law, Hazel Garrett and husband, Lloyd; sister-in-law, Mary Brown and husband, Raymond; brother-in-law, Kenneth Murrell; nephew, Steve Brown; and one niece, Barbara Brown also preceded him in death.
