Mary Jo, daughter of Gilmer and Ruby (Gardner) Simpson was born November 5, 1936 in Bucklin, Missouri. In 1954 she married Wayne Amen of New Boston. Born to this union were two children, Chuck and Mary Carol.
Together with their family they moved from the Brookfield area to Northwest Missouri where they were members of the First Baptist Church of Maryville. Mary Jo was church secretary for 20 years, knowing this was her true calling in life.
Wayne & Mary Jo always loved traveling together including Hawaii for their 25th anniversary, a cruise to the Bahamas for their 40th, and Sweden for their 50th. They also drove their motorhome many thousands of miles to Alaska and back, twice. They also took the grandchildren to Canada and special trips around the US.
They were members of Campers on Mission where Mary Jo was secretary and treasurer. They traveled in their motorhome around the state doing construction and maintenance at youth camps with this group. They were also members of the Kansas City Chief Winnebago club, where she was also treasurer. For approximately 20 years they have spent their winters in South Texas meeting with old and new friends. Being a member of Park Baptist Church, Mary Jo was the leader of Keenagers for many years and planned several enjoyable trips for that group.
