Robert D. Johnson

Robert D. Johnson, age 92, of Marceline, died Thursday, March 14, 2019, at Life Care Center in Brookfield.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2019, at Wright Funeral Home in Brookfield with Pastor Tom Sullenger officiating.  Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Brookfield.  The family will receive friends Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.

Robert David, the fifth child of E. David and E. Victoria (Erickson) Johnson, was born March 18, 1926, in the family farmhouse in Loda, Illinois.

Bob was a 1944 graduate of Loda High School in Loda, Illinois.  Following graduation, he joined the United States Army where he served for 14 months as Clerk General at the Separation Center before being discharged November 24, 1946.  After returning home, Bob went back to farming.  On August 14, 1955, he married Lois Nicholson and together they had two children, David and Cheryl.  In January of 1969, Bob and Lois relocated their family to Warrensburg, Missouri where Bob operated the college farm at Central Missouri State University for the next seven years.  In 1976, the family purchased a farm north of Marceline.  In 2008, Bob had a major heart attack and was unable to care for Lois.  Lois then moved to Life Care Center in Brookfield where Bob faithfully visited daily until her death on August 14, 2012.  Bob remained on the family farm until he became a member of the Life Care family in February of 2014.   

Survivors include his son David Johnson and wife, Sharon of Chillicothe and daughter, Cheryl Terry and husband, Daniel of Lee’s Summit; along with three grandsons, Scott Johnson of Boston, MA, Brett Johnson and wife, Jackie of Liberty, Steven Johnson and wife, Abby of Columbus, OH; two granddaughters, Michelle Robertson and husband, Jason and Kelli DeWitt and husband, Charlie both of Lee’s Summit; five great-grandsons, Riley, Luke, Chip, Bremen, and Zack; and two sisters, Eleanor Bogner of Catonsville, Maryland and Phyllis King of Champaign, Illinois; and numerous nieces and nephews.

His parents; one brother, Wesley Johnson; and three sisters, Carolyn Larson, Marian Osborn, and Elaine Gustafson also preceded him in death.
