Betty Pekelder Obituary

Betty Pekelder, age 94, of Laclede, died Saturday, January 2, 2021, at Pershing Memorial Hospital in Brookfield.

Services will be Friday, January 8, 2021 at 12:00 p.m. at Wright Funeral Home in Brookfield with Pastor Joe Wright officiating. Burial will be in the Missouri State Veteran’s Cemetery in Jacksonville.  The family will receive friends Friday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Betty Jean, daughter of Arthur and Jeanette (Hyink) Mouw, was born January 17, 1926 in Newkirk, Iowa.  On December 18, 1946, she married Donald Wayne Pekelder who preceded her in death on April 6, 2015.

Betty was a homemaker and a member of the Martin Christian Reform Church in Martin, Michigan. Since moving to Laclede she has attended the First Baptist Church in Laclede.

Survivors include her children, Carol Swank and husband, Lee of Branson, Douglas Pekelder of Laclede, Ruth Midgett and husband, Donnie of Marian, Illinois, Linda Zolecki and husband, Greg of Lemont, Illinois, Debra Gibson ad husband, Jim of Apex, North Carolina, Bernard Pekelder and wife, Deborah of Bolingbrook, Illinois, Janet Kolin and husband, Richard of Joliet, Illinois and Jerry Pekelder and wife, Nancy of Joliet, Illinois; 21 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and three great great-grandchildren; three sisters, Bernice Vanzyl of St. Paul, Minnesota, Sharon Doorenbos and husband, Russell of Boyden, Iowa, and Ardis Grein and husband, Fred of Sheldon, Iowa; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Her parents; one son, Bruce Pekelder; one brother, Raymond Mouw; three sisters, Loretta Dykstra and husband, Norman, Lorraine Eichoff and husband, Loren, and Irene Kruger and husband, Herman; two grandsons, Adam Swank and Michael Sterr; and one brother-in-law, Fred Vanzyl also preceded her in death.
