Elaine (Norvell) Miller

Elaine Miller, age 90 of Purdin, died Saturday, November 4, 2023.

Funeral services will be Thursday, November 9, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Wright Funeral Home in Brookfield with Bo Brown officiating.  Burial will be in Jenkins Cemetery in Browning.  The family will receive friends Thursday, from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.

Donna Elaine, daughter of Lealand and Lucile (Taylor) Norvell, was born, October 24, 1933, on a farm west of Browning. On November 6, 1954, she married Donnie Ray Miller who preceded her in death on October 25, 2007.

Elaine began her working career immediately after graduation in 1951 from Browning High School and was employed by Hills McKanna as a typist in Chicago, Illinois.  After marriage, they lived at Fort Leonard Wood, where Elaine was employed as a civilian while Donnie Ray was stationed in the United States Army.  In 1960 they moved to Kansas City, Missouri where Elaine worked for Farmland Industries.

Then in 1978, Elaine and  Donnie Ray moved back to their farm in rural Purdin, where she was employed by the Linn County R-1 School District as a bus driver and later became a rural mail carrier until her retirement at the age of 83.

Elaine was a talented pianist.  She was a member of the Platte Woods Methodist Church, Daughters of the American Revolution, and the National Rural Letter Carrier Association.

Survivors include one daughter, Patricia “Patty” Lambert and husband, Dane of Shelby and their children, Paige Elaine Brown and husband, Bo, and Damon Lambert, and their two grandchildren, Wade Brown and Hudson Brown; son, Steven Miller and wife, Tanya Johannes of Greenwood and their daughter Caitlin Miller and husband, David Onwiler, and their grandson, Tucker Onwiler; son, Thad Miller of Purdin and Chantal Miller of Chillicothe and their children, Alexis Finney and husband, Alec, Kaia Miller and fiancé, Carson Wilkerson and Harlow Miller, and their granddaughter, Andi Elaine Finney; and one sister, Clarice Wood.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Donnie Ray Miller.
