Janell, the daughter of Hilton Dale and Gladys Geneva (Power) Simmons, was born September 27, 1926, on the family farm near Laclede, Mo.  On June 1, 1946, she was united in marriage to Glenn William Holloway in the Laclede United Methodist Church.  They were married for 70 years.

Janell’s early life was spent working on the family farm with her grandfather, Charles Simmons, and her dad.  She would fondly tell stories of riding a horse three-quarters of a mile, twice a day, to start the gas engine water pump to fill the cattle tank.

Janell graduated from Laclede High School in 1944 and attended Central Methodist College in Fayette the following year.  After leaving Fayette, Janell moved to Kansas City where she worked as a legal secretary for Stinson, Magg, Thompson, McEvers and Fizzell; a job she thoroughly enjoyed. Soon after her marriage to Glenn in 1946, the partnership of Simmons & Holloway was formed to include her parents, Hilton and Gladys, along with Glenn and herself.  Janell loved being outside and actively working with her dad and Glenn. They milked Guernsey cows and raised sheep and turkeys.  Later they transitioned to Hereford cattle, and finally to purebred Charolais cattle which they raised for 40 years. Janell loved her life as a “farm wife”, teaching her boys to buck bales and drive a pickup in the middle of a pasture.

Janell was a life-long member of the Laclede United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, a 65-year member of Chapter R PEO, member of the American Legion Auxiliary – Pershing Old Home Post 197, and ardent member of the Pershing Park Memorial Association.

Janell is survived by her three sons, Galen G. Holloway and wife Susan, Jefferson City, Kevin D. Holloway, Laclede, and Loren H. Holloway and wife Charice of Independence.  She is also survived by grandchildren Kane Holloway and wife Tiffany, Centralia, Kate Williams and husband Dann, Chillicothe, Kara Lanham, Kansas City, Cole Holloway, Okoye Holloway both of Hot Springs, S.D., Sarah Judd and husband Kris, Holt Summit, and Zana Deliu, Chicago, IL., as well as great-grandchildren Mason, Keeley, Declan and Charlotte Holloway, Ava Lanham, Remi and David Williams, Joslyn, Lenora and Jameson Judd, sister-in-law Pat Holloway, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Janell was preceded in death by her parents, husband Glenn, and brothers and sisters-in-law Louise and Glenn Clough, Eldon and Louise Holloway, Delbert and Laura Holloway, Kenneth and Marilyn Holloway, and Franklin and Iva Jean Holloway.
