Jean Louise (Alexander) Burton

Jean Burton, age 84, of Chillicothe, MO, died Monday, February 8, 2021 at Hedrick Medical Center.

Jean (Alexander) Burton, daughter of Rollie and Hadena Alexander, was born on December 7, 1936, in Hamilton, MO.  As a child, she attended a one-room schoolhouse.  Later, she graduated from Tri-County High School in Jamesport, MO.

After high school, she worked for many years as a bank teller.  Also, an accomplished musician, she played the piano and organ at Calvary Baptist Church, United Methodist Church, and funeral homes.  Music was always an integral part of the home as well.  

On November 15, 1969, she married Paul Burton.  They met at one of the coffee clubs they both enjoyed during work breaks.  They enjoyed many years together before he preceded her in death in 2004.  She was also preceded in death by her parents, a brother, James Alexander, and a sister, Rollene Pritchett.

Jean's priorities were her faith and her family.  She loved her family with a generous spirit.  She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.  She was always kind to others, but she also had a spunky attitude and a myriad of idioms to share if you were fortunate enough to be in her company.

Jean Burton will be greatly missed by family and friends.  She is survived by her daughter, Jani Schepers, of Prairie Village, a grandson, Mike Schepers of Brooklyn, NY, a nephew, Bari VanDyke of Trenton, Mo, a lifelong friend, Jean Guffey of Breckenridge, MO, and a grandpup, Niamh.  

Due to the pandemic, the memorial service will be postponed to a later date.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to a lunch fund for the Hedrick Medical Center staff as appreciation for their compassion and skill.  Checks payable to the Hedrick Medical Center Foundation may be left at or mailed to Wright Funeral Home, P.O.
