John Stratton, age 80, of Brookfield, passed away Thursday, November 24, 2022, at Harry S. Truman Memorial VA Hospital in Columbia.
A celebration of John’s life will be held Saturday, December 3, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at Laclede United Methodist Church with Pastor Joe Cuminale officiating. Following the service will be Military Honors rendered by VFW Post #4557 of Brookfield and an open reception honoring John in the Laclede United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, where food will be served. There will be no burial at this time.

John Delbert, son of Basil and Cecil (Grimes) Stratton, was born, May 18, 1942, in Pleasant Hill, Missouri. He grew up with his siblings Patty, Bonnie, Bill, Jack, and Kerri. John was a 1961 graduate of Meadville High School. He also was a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps serving during Vietnam from September 1966 through September 1969. On November 22, 1962, he married Dorothy Sharon Collier.
John spent the majority of his life as a heavy equipment operator for various groups but most recently for W.R. Forde Construction Company in Greenbrae, California. He was so proud to be trained in this profession by his father here in Linn County.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Laclede as well as the United Methodist in Meadville. John was also a member of the Elks Lodge in Brookfield, Moose Lodge in California, National Rifle Association, and the Meadville Alumni Group.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon Stratton of the home; two children, Dona Lucas, and husband Scott of Laclede, and Craig Stratton and wife, Kerrigan McCarthy of Santa Rosa, California; brother-in-law, Clifford Ray Collier and wife, Emily of Ballwin, brothers-in-law, Dave Martin and Eugene Seaboldt; two grand dogs, Mugsy and Chewy; siblings, cousins, nieces, nephews; and his friends all over the country; as well as his church family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Basil and Cecil Stratton; in-laws, Paul and Grace Collier; brother, Bill Stratton; sister-in-law, Karen Collier; brother-in-law, Ron Mast; niece, Stacey Sedgewick Mast, and his great canine buddy, Killer.
