Kathy Burris, age 84, of Meadville, passed away, Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at NorthCare Hospice House in Kansas City.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Meadville with Pastor Cory Majors officiating.  Burial will be in Parson’s Creek Cemetery near Eversonville.  Visitation will be held Tuesday, February, 6, 2024, from 5:00 until 7:00 in the evening at Wright Funeral Home in Brookfield.

Katherine Louise, daughter of William E. and Anna Pauline (Hope) McCaughey, was born January 18, 1940, in Milan.  On November 29, 1958, she married Paul Nixon “Nick” Shiflett, who preceded her in death on January 9, 1984.  To that union were four children, Paul (1959), James (1961), Diane (1969), and Chris (1971).  In May of 1995, Kathy married Roy Eugene “Gene” Burris, who preceded her in death on January 23, 2024.

Kathy was the owner and beauty operator at Kathy’s Fashion Cuts in Meadville until her retirement on December 29, 2006.  She enjoyed having the opportunity to talk with everyone and especially enjoyed all of the kid haircuts she was able to do.

Kathy had a passion for cooking, canning and always loved working in her garden.  She had a kind heart and loved her family immensely.

She was member of the First Baptist Church in Meadville, and the Civic Club in Meadville.

Survivors include 4 children, Paul Shiflett and wife, Dena of Huntsville, James Shiflett of Meadville, Diane Long and husband, Tyler of Purdin, and Chris Shiflett of Meadville; 2 stepchildren, Ann Burris and wife, Kathy of Belton, and Arla Beneke and husband, Jeff of Peculiar; 10 grandchildren, Nicole Shiflett, Anthony Shiflett and wife, Ashley, Natisha Shiflett, Nicholas Shiflett and wife, Tiffany, and Natalie Jarboe and husband, Will all of Meadville, Tauna Buckner and husband, Adam of Humphreys, Tamara Long and Mike Daniels of Hale, and Shelby Shiflett, April Shiflett and Bryce Passig, and Jack Stockwell all of Meadville and one step grandchild Jesse Benke; 18 great-grandchildren, Alexis, Kase, Blakely, Gauge, and Gavin Shiflett, Rylan and Aiden Jarboe, Montana, Grayson, and Charlie Buckner, Bronson, Lawson, Kelson, and Mason Daniels, Brydon, Paxton, and Lucas Stanfield, and Carter Passig; 4 siblings, Betty Dudley of Knoxville, Iowa, Mary Carter and husband, Raymond of LaPlata, Larry McCaughey of Milan, and Billy McCaughey and wife, Theresa of Milan; 2 sisters-in-law, Susie McCaughey of Oak Grove, and Kathy Frazier of Milan; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; daughter-in-law, Lori Shiflett (2019), 3 siblings, Della Holliday (2004) and husband Benton, Tommy McCaughey (2019), and Bobby McCaughey (1974); 2 half-brothers, Harry and Hugh McCaughey; 1 half-sister, Lizzy Jane Dorman; and 2 brothers-in-law, Lylburn “Shorty” Dudley and Marty Frazier.
