Leroy M. Montgomery

Leroy Montgomery, age 85, of Purdin, passed away Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at his home.

Funeral services will be Saturday, October 7, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Wright Funeral Home in Brookfield with Bo Brown officiating. Burial will be in the Bear Branch Cemetery in Purdin with Military Honors rendered by VFW Post #4557 of Brookfield. The family will receive friends, Saturday, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Leroy, son of Ross and Bernice Montgomery, was born September 27, 1938, in Purdin, MO. On December 21, 1958, he married Sonja Lambert, whom he celebrated 43 years with before her passing on February 23, 2002.

Leroy lived a long and eventful life and was full of stories.  To say he was ornery growing up, is an understatement. Leroy served in the United States Army and did a few things in life including working for the telephone company, pushing snow and race cars, a mailman, volunteer firefighter, a pyrotechnician, a mechanic, welding and pipe bending and owned his own repair shop upon retirement. He enjoyed bow fishing, square dancing, deer hunting, playing cards and camping and had a special talent of being able to build anything out of whatever he had laying around. This man could do it all.

Survivors include his daughter, Tina Ellis and husband, Randy, of Olathe, Kansas; grandchildren, Kelsey Hamman and husband, Michael, Justin Naylor, Jennifer Reaney, Sarah Myres and husband, Robert: great grandchildren, Andrew, Dominic, Hailey, Zoe, and Shane: and many cousins and friends. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Bear Branch Cemetery or may be left at or mailed to Wright Funeral Home, PO Box 496 Brookfield, MO 64628.

Leroy was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Sonja and one daughter, Judith Naylor.
