Meredith Day Obituary

Meredith (Stanley) Day, age 92, beloved mother and grandmother of Laclede, Missouri, passed away, Friday, October 22, 2021, at Arbor Court Retirement Community in Lawrence, KS.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Meredith Muzell, daughter of Walter and Lucille (Reed) Stanley, was born, January 31, 1929, in Cairo, Missouri. On July 19, 1949, she married Rex L. Day and they remained together until his death on December 10, 1982.

Meredith was a member of Ozawkie United Methodist Church in Ozawkie, KS as well as being involved in many organizations including Family & Community Education, the Kansas Federation of Republican Women, the Jefferson County Economic Development Committee, and the Linn County Peacemaker Quilt Guild. Her volunteer work gave her the opportunity to feed her passion for travel around the Midwest as well as the rest of the country.

Meredith was part owner of Apple Valley Farm on Perry Lake, Kansas (1970-2003) and later operated a quilt shop in Brookfield, Missouri. Meredith was famous for both her amazing fried chicken and quilts as well as her gift of sharing a story and a laugh with all who met her.

She was preceded in death by her oldest son Rex L. Day, Jr. of Memphis, Tennessee. Her five surviving children included Georgia Lee (Michael) Biswell of Overland Park, Kansas, Robert (Sam) Day of Trenton, MO., Terry (Pegi) Day of Fort Pierce, Florida, James (Jennifer) Day of Lawrence, Kansas, and Kimberly (Richard) Herries of Eudora, Kansas. She had four siblings, Dick Stanley (deceased) of Macon, Missouri, Ronald Stanley of Marshall, Missouri, Beverly Graham of Hamilton, Missouri, and William Stanley of Independence, Missouri. She had thirteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
