Mildred May Merritt, age 104, of Brookfield, formerly of Sumner, died Monday, February 22, 2021, at Pioneer Skilled Nursing Center in Marceline.
Friends may call Friday, February 26, 2021, at Wright Funeral Home in Brookfield from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon, there will be a private family service at a later time with burial in Lakeside Cemetery in Sumner.

Mildred May, daughter of Lambert and Estalla (Kincaid) Coats, was born October 18, 1916 in Millville. On August 18, 1937, she married Ondle LaVell “Cracker” Merritt who preceded her in death on August 12, 1991.
Mildred was a homemaker and a factory worker. She was a lifelong Christian and attended Caldwell Street Baptist Church in Brookfield for several years.
Survivors include two sons, Gary Merritt and wife, Janice of Brookfield and Keith Merritt and wife, Judy of Wellington; twelve grandchildren, Richard Wilson and wife, Delorse, Susie Neal and husband, Andy, Clifton Wilson and wife, Theresa, Danielle Owens, Randall Stonger, Kim Beck, Melissa Maxwell and husband, Robert, Tony Gooch, Marcy Pence and husband, Dennis, Susan Spears and husband, Terry, William D. Merritt, and Melanie Markley; 24 great-grandchildren; eight great great-grandchildren; 1 great great great-grandchild; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Her parents; one daughter, Mary Sue Wilson; four brothers, Tyson Coats, Johnny Coats, Robert Coats, and Richard Coats; and four sisters, Dorothy McAfee, Francis Sanderson, Mary Smith and Helen McGinnis also preceded her in death.
