Reatha Guyer Obituary

Reatha Guyer, age 97, passed away on Monday, October 4, 2021.

Reatha was born on September 9, 1924, in Cape Fair, Missouri, in the house she grew up in, to Laura Bell Carr Jones and Joseph Henry Jones.  Her mother Laura didn’t care for her own middle name, so she said if any of her girls wanted one, they could choose their own.

Reatha attended school in Crane, Missouri, where she had many friends, wanted to play basketball (but her mother wouldn’t let her), and was the editor of the school yearbook.

After high school she went to live with her aunt and uncle in Kansas City Missouri, working for Pratt & Whitney in support of the war effort.

After the war was over, she attended college at the University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri. There she met her future husband, Paul Guyer.

After their marriage, Paul worked on his PhD while Reatha worked as a Home Economics teacher.  During that time in Columbia, Paul and Reatha had a child that died shortly after birth.  They named her Connie Lynn, and she is buried near the place where Reatha will be laid to rest.

Paul finished his PhD at Columbia in 1954.  They then moved to Lincoln Nebraska, where Paul had been accepted as a professor in the animal science department at the University of Nebraska.  After moving to Lincoln, Reatha taught school and had three children – Laure Patricia, Paul Scott and Gregory Alan.

Reatha’s faith in God centered her life.  She was an active member of the Lincoln Church of Christ at 56th and Vine St.  She spent much of her time teaching Bible school and taking part in the many activities at the church.

Reatha lived in Lincoln until a few years after Paul passed away in 2006.  After living in Lincoln for 59 years, Reatha went to Texas to live with her daughter Laure and enjoy the warmer weather Texas has to offer.  Reatha lived in the City of Bellaire for five years until recently moving to an assisted living facility in Georgetown Texas.

Reatha is the last of her generation of the Jones family of Cape Fair, Missouri.

Reatha was well loved and was preceded in death by her husband Paul Quentin Guyer, her daughter Connie Lynn Guyer, her parents Joseph Henry Jones and Laura Bell Jones, her sisters Alice Allen and Helen Lewis, and her brothers Roy Jones and Joy Lee Jones.

Reatha leaves behind three well-loved children and their spouses: Laure Patricia Tucker and her husband Michael Tucker, Paul Scott Guyer and his wife Lori Guyer, and Gregory Alan Guyer and his wife Theresa Guyer.

Reatha also leaves behind seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren: granddaughter Sylvia Mack and her husband Ryan Mack with their children Lincoln, Houston, Charlotte and Reese, granddaughter Camilla Tucker and her fiancé Cameron O’Sullivan, grandson Paul Brandon Guyer and his wife Shannon Guyer, grandson Alexander Guyer, grandson Dylan Guyer and his wife Emma Guyer with their children Ila and Gradey, grandson Mitchell Guyer, and grandson Quinn Guyer.

A celebration of her life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on October 9, 2021, at Bear Branch Church and Cemetery, Brookfield, Missouri.

Memorials can be sent to the Lincoln Church of Christ, 820 North 56th Street, Lincoln, NE 68504
