Ronald Surber Obituary

Ronald Dewayne Surber, age 85 of Meadville Missouri, passed away on Tuesday, April 28, 2020, in Chillicothe, Missouri, at Indian Hills Nursing Home in the company of loving caregivers.  He was a member and deacon of the Meadville Church of Christ.

Ronald was born near Meadville, Missouri, on May 30, 1934, son of Marion and Neta (Springer) Surber, where he spent all of his life in the Duncan Community.
He graduated from Meadville High School in 1951.

In 1953, he married Joyce Allene Whitworth and to this union two children were born, daughter Dana Susan Surber and son Kurt Wayne Surber.

Ronald was a farmer and outdoorsman his entire life.  He tilled the soil of their own farm of 67 years, sharecropped with others, maintained a herd of dairy cattle and, along with Kurt, raised registered Hampshire sheep.  For several years he was honored to be associated with Burrus Seed as a salesman.

Of utmost importance in his life was Fountain Grove Conservation Area.  From its inception he was a frequent visitor there, whether it was picking up pecans, fishing, hunting or visiting with dear friends and Area employees.  He was a charter member of the Meadville Lions Club as well as a member of the Wild Turkey Federation and Ducks Unlimited during his lifetime.
He was an avid Meadville Eagles basketball fan.  He also enjoyed watching the Kansas City Royals and Kansas City Chiefs.  His hobbies included an interest in Native American culture and artifacts.  Ronald loved to be out in nature searching for “treasures”.

He is survived by his wife Joyce Surber of Meadville, MO;  his daughter Dana Surber of Kansas City, MO;  daughter-in-law Lynn Surber of Stockton, MO;  grandsons Austin Surber and Cole Surber of Stockton, MO;  granddaughter Meranda Trinkle and husband Joshua as well as their daughters Isabella and Gabriell of Hollister, MO;  sister Wilda Rottmann of Meadville, MO;  sister-in-law Virginia McCollem of Chillicothe, MO;  brother-in-law Jerry Whitworth and his wife Karen of Kearney, MO; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his son Kurt Surber;  parents, Marion and Neta Surber;  brother Meryl Surber; sister-in-law Lovene Surber;  brother-in-law Darrell Rottmann;  sister-in-law Lavaun and her husband Kenneth Ware.
