Susan M. Davis

Susan M. Davis, age 60, of Independence, passed away, Sunday, January 1, 2023, at her home.

Funeral services will be Monday, January 9, 2023, at 12:00 noon at Park Baptist Church in Brookfield with Pastor David Blakely officiating.  Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery in Brookfield.  The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church.

Susan Marie, daughter of William Charles and Evelyn Leona (Payne) Davis, was born October 31, 1962, in North Kansas City MO.

Susan worked as an insurance adjuster for GEHA in Kansas City for over 30 years. 

Susan’s bubbly personality began from the time she was a little girl, she was very happy go lucky and she always sparkled.  She was a very good student, graduating from Lathrop High School, Lathrop, MO in 1981 and from William Jewell College, Liberty MO in 1986.  God gifted her with a beautiful voice and she was active in several singing activities in high school including a lead role in the musical, Oklahoma. 

Susan loved her family unconditionally.  She very much enjoyed taking an annual family trip to her favorite casino, the Horseshoe in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and going to the family lake retreat at Pomme de Terre lake in Nemo, MO.  Susan also enjoyed traveling to Branson and spending time with her son Will, who was everything to her.

Susan’s generosity in the depth of her love and devotion to those she cherished was immeasurable.  Susan loved family gatherings including cooking for her loved ones.  She was also the best at giving presents and knew just what everyone would like. She was extremely loyal and a fierce defender of all that was good; a characteristic for which she will be always be remembered.

Survivors include her son, William James Davis of the home; sister, Sherry Davis Shively and husband Jeff of Liberty; two nephews, Tyler Davis of Kansas City and Ryan Shively of Liberty; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, and other loved ones including her best friend Karen Turner of Independence.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William Charles Davis and Evelyn Leona Davis; grandparents, Lawrence and Wilhelmina (Passig) Payne and Gail and Dorothy (Creason) Davis; brother-in-law, Graham Davis; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
