Carl Boorn Obituary

Carl Edwin Boorn, age 82, of Brookfield, peacefully passed into the arms of the Lord on December 8, 2018, at North Kansas City Hospital.

Memorial services will be Saturday, February 16, 2019, at 1:00 p.m. at Wright Funeral Home in Brookfield with Pastor David Blakely officiating.  Burial will be in Plainview Cemetery in Chula.  The family will receive friends Saturday from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.

Carl Edwin, son of Carl and Edythe (Mammen) Boorn, was born on October 13, 1936, in Sturges, Missouri.  On August 28, 1964, he married Marie Justine Castagno, who preceded him in death April 18, 1983.  Then on November 21, 1987, he married Wanda Louise Zickefoose, who preceded him in death May 1, 2015.

Carl served in the United States Air Force from 1954 until he retired in 1974.  He received rank of E6 Technical Sergeant.

In 1982, he owned and operated The Missouri Armorer, where he sold and repaired firearms.  He was also a volunteer instructor for six years at the Missouri Army National Guard in Chillicothe. 

After moving to Kansas City, Carl worked at TWA as an avionics technician.  He continued working there even after it became American Airlines and retired from there.

Carl was a member of Sherwood Bible Church in Kansas City.  He was also a lifetime member of the NRA and a member of Powder Creek Cowboys.

Carl enjoyed reading, designing and building, teaching and traveling. 

Survivors include two daughters, Bonnie Boorn of Brookfield and Colleen Boorn of Wooldridge, Missouri; two stepsons, Larry Peak and wife, Marsha of Kansas City, Missouri and Bill Peak and wife, Penny of Newkirk, Oklahoma; three grandchildren, Holli Abbott and husband, Kevin, Heather Winsor and Carla Turpin and husband, Chad all of Brookfield; 14 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Connie Shanahan and husband, Kevin of San Francisco, California, Sue Boorn of Denver, Colorado and Jeanne Bjorn of Tuscon, Arizona; and one brother, Erv Boorn of Carrollton, Texas.
