Helen Vroom, age 80, of Hale, died Thursday, December 13, 2018, at NorthCare Hospice House in Kansas City.
Funeral services will be Friday, December 21, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. at the Hale Baptist Church. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Sumner. Visitation will be Thursday, December 20, 2018, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Wright Funeral Home in Brookfield. The family will also receive friends Friday, from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at the church.

Helen Marie, daughter of John W. and Gladys (Ponting) Dougherty, was born October 28, 1938, in Hale. On January 3, 1959, she married John M. Vroom who preceded her in death on March 29, 2013.
Helen was a homemaker. She spent many years as a cook for Chapel Hill Elementary School in Gladstone and also worked in the mailroom at Farmland in North Kansas City.
She enjoyed volunteering her time as a Sunday school teacher and maintaining church birthday, anniversary and other correspondence. Over the years, Helen also served as a leader for the Boy Scouts and Brownies.
Helen was a member of the Hale Baptist Church.
Survivors include two children, Terri Sykes and husband, Robert of Culleoka, Tennessee, and Randy Vroom and wife, Margie of Liberty; four grandchildren, Travis Sykes, Chad Sykes, Nathan Sykes, and Alexis Vroom; two great-grandchildren, Milo Sykes and Hunter Sykes; one sister, Carol Maxon of Kansas City; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Her parents; one brother, John Henry Dougherty; and one sister, Wanda Thornsberry also preceded her in death.
