Jerry Finney Obituary

Jerry Finney, age 81, of Shelby, died Tuesday, March 12, 2019, at Life Care Center in Brookfield.

Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, March 15, 2019, at Wright Funeral Home in Brookfield with Jim Fitzgerald officiating.  Burial will be in Bear Branch Cemetery near Purdin at a later date.  The family will receive friends Friday beginning at 2:00 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.

Jerry Lon, son of Glenn and Versie (Baskett) Finney, was born January 6, 1938 in Nevada.  On February 22, 1958, he married Marlene Woodside.

He was a 1955 graduate of Liberty High School in Browning.

Jerry spent a short time working as a Millwright welder on highrise metal buildings in the Kansas City area.  He then spent many years as a mechanic for Finney Garage in Shelby and Smith Motor in Brookfield.  He also worked as a truckdriver for Redmon Equipment. 

He held a private pilot license and enjoyed restoring, flying planes and giving rides, especially while living at the old Brookfield Airport from 1986-1996. Jerry also enjoyed restoring old tractors and traveling all over the United States hauling farm equipment.

Jerry was a member of Bear Branch United Methodist Church near Purdin.

Survivors include his wife, Marlene of the home; one daughter, Jan Finney and husband, Alan Walker of Bunceton; two sons, Jeff Finney and Keeley LeBleu and Jeneil Finney and wife, Cheryl all of Shelby; eight grandchildren, Scott Shaul of Macon, Justine Finney of Ashland, Joleen Leonard and husband, Tucker of Sedalia, Sasha Parker and husband, Heath of Battle Lake, Minnesota, Dillon Walker of Washington, DC, Megan Lynn and husband, Jeremy of Excelsior Springs, Sarah Walker of Santa Cruz, California, and Alec Finney and Alexis Miller of North Kansas City; 15 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ronnie Finney and wife, Linda of Oak Grove and Carlos Finney and wife, Norma of Lathrop; one sister, Sharon Munsterman of Linneus; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

His parents preceded him in death.
