Heaven gained an amazing soul, and our world lost one of the sweetest persons to ever grace the earth. Virginia “Ginny” Hutchinson, 100, of Chillicothe, Missouri, joined her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at 1:06 a.m., Wednesday, November 21, 2018.
Ginny was born July 25, 1918, to Dr. John Hodgen and Florence Ann (Squire) Lucas in Brookfield, Missouri. She had three older sisters: Betty Lucas, Pearl McCue, and Gertrude “Peggy” Stauber.
Ginny and her sweetheart, Evan Wendell Hutchinson, married May 9, 1937, and were blessed with four children: Ann, who died of leukemia at the age of two; Nancy Hutchinson, Findlay, Ohio; John Hutchinson, Chillicothe; and Page (Jim) Malone, Springfield, Missouri. Grandchildren are Evan (Beth) McNish and great-grandson David, Glen Ellyn, Illinois; Scott (Crista) McNish, Battle Ground, Washington; Luke Malone and Rachel Malone, Springfield; and Jay (Corrie) Hutchinson, Columbia, Missouri. Evan passed on October 25, 1999; he and Ginny were married 62 years.
Ginny was a long-time member and Sunday School teacher at First Baptist Church Chillicothe. Her love for Jesus filled her to overflowing with love for all those around her. A homemaker on their farm northeast of Chillicothe, Ginny catered beautifully decorated cakes, enjoyed gardening and crafting, and blessed many with her hand-crocheted red “scrubbies.” She and Evan were actively involved with Lay Witness Mission and prison ministry. Ginny was presented an award for 25 years of community service in 2009. Her favorite Bible verse was Proverbs 3:6, “In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”
A celebration of Ginny’s life will be at First Baptist Church Chillicothe on Monday, November 26, at 11 a.m., with visitation preceding at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Brookfield. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to First Baptist Church Chillicothe and/or The Baptist Home, 500 Baptist Home Lane, Chillicothe, Missouri 64601. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Wright Funeral Home, Brookfield.
