Dennis Calhoun Obituary

Dennis Calhoun, age 79, of Brookfield, Missouri left for his eternal heavenly home with Jesus on January 20, 2023, surrounded by family at the Harry S. Truman Memorial Veteran’s Hospital in Columbia, Missouri.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, January 28, 2023, at the Evangelical United Methodist Church with Reverend Sue Lambert officiating.  Masonic services will precede the Celebration of Life with Military Honors immediately following the service. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Masonic service.

Dennis Laverne, son of LP “Bus” and Bernetah (Fawcett) Calhoun, was born on June 14, 1943, in Storm Lake, Iowa.  On September 15, 1978, he married Cheryl Carr of Brookfield.

Dennis was a 1961 graduate of Crestland High School, Early, Iowa.  He joined the United States Air Force and served in Turkey, Vietnam, and at March AFB in Riverside, California.  He was an engineer by trade and worked in communications, fiber optics, and pipelines.  In his early years, he obtained a pilot license and flew his own private plane.  He was also a real estate broker and auctioneer.

Dennis was an active member of both the Masonic Lodge #86, Brookfield and the Jackson Lodge, Linneus.  He was past Master and was serving as Secretary in the Masonic Lodge #86.  He was past President of the Hill Country Shrine Club, and Alzafar Kerr Klowns, Kerrville, Texas.  He enjoyed pulling tractors, modifying old cars, attending car shows, and meeting with the “coffee club”.

He is survived by his wife, Cheryl, of the home; two daughters, Tracy Calhoun, and Paulette Holtz and husband Mike all of Brookfield; three grandchildren, Caleb Calhoun of Alamogordo, NM, Josh Holtz and Sarah Holtz of Brookfield; three nephews, Mark Calhoun of Hilo, HI, Micheal Calhoun of Lykens, PA, and Matt Hinez of Hilo, HI; many cousins, nieces, nephews; his very dear friends, his canines and felines.

He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Walter and Winona Carr; sister, Darla Kay Schroeder; and many faithful canines, felines, and bovines.
