James David Shoop

James David Shoop, age 75, of Brookfield, passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2022, at his home in Brookfield.

Visitation will be Saturday, March 19, 2022, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at Wright Funeral Home, Brookfield, MO. Private family graveside service will be held at a later time.

James David, son of Freddie Jack and Margaret Louise (Franklin) Shoop, was born March 23, 1946, in Milan, Missouri. On June 12, 1965, he married Nancy Ann Brantner. Jim was Baptized and became a member of the Baker Christian Church. He spent many years as a farmer, raising different kinds of livestock and row crops. He served as the Sullivan County Assessor for eight years and spent several years working for Gully Transportation. Jim was a big Kansas Jayhawk Basketball fan. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and enjoyed looking for Indian artifacts and arrowheads. He also collected antique glassware. He looked forward to Spring so he could spend time in his garden and enjoyed feeding and watching the birds in the back yard. Jim loved to spend time with his family as well as with his beloved dog, Buddy, and cat, Sammy Jo.

Survivors include his wife Nancy, of the home; his mother, Margaret Shoop; two children, Rodney Shoop (Terry), Marceline, and Kimberly Chastine (Ron), Marshall; five grandchildren, Megan Tarpening (Jake), Matthew Shoop, Alyssa Chastine, Molly Shoop, and Aaron Chastine; six great-grandchildren, Preston, Kingston, Tynzlee, and Hazley Tarpening, and Nevaeh and Paisley Kennedy; one brother, Jack Shoop; one uncle, Duane Franklin; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Freddie, one uncle, Johnny Shoop, one sister-in-law, Shirley Perkins, two brothers in law, Dick Perkins, and Ivan Peterson and one nephew Wesley Webber
