Virginia (Murrain) Barrows

Virginia Barrows, age 83, of Smithville, formerly of Purdin, died Saturday, June 5, 2021 at her home.

A funeral service will be Wednesday, June 9, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at Wright Funeral Home in Brookfield with Pastor Rex Leppin officiating. Burial will be in Purdin Cemetery in Purdin. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Virginia Ilene, daughter of Standly and Myrtle “Pauline” (Turner) Murrain, was born July 22, 1937 east of Linneus.  On December 27, 1958, she married Jerry Barrows who preceded her in death on April 17, 2014.

Virginia was a school teacher for 31 years, teaching at Linn County R-I School at Purdin for 30 of those years. After retirement, she worked at a doctor’s office as a manager for 19 years.  She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Linneus; Chapter AM P.E.O. in Linneus and the Missouri State Teachers Association.

Survivors include, three sons, Phillip Barrows and wife, Joni of Smithville, Robert Barrows and wife, Tammy of Linneus and Cary Barrows and wife, Stacy of Smithville; ten grandchildren, Matt Barrows and wife, Erica, Ben Barrows, Kelly Barrows, Bryan Barrows and wife, Hollie, Mandy Barrows, Megan Gunn and husband, Andy, Madison Barrows, Brett Barrows, Trent Bertsche and Tara Beaver and husband, Ryan; eleven great-grandchildren and one sister, Phyllis Psencik of Glen Rose, Texas.

She was also preceded in death by her parents.
